VOLUNTEER

    THE ANIMALS NEED YOU...

OUR TEAM OF DEDICATED ANIMAL AMBASSADORS CARES FOR THEM REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY ARE IN NASSAU COUNTY

  •

All of us at FAN want to say how proud we are of this young lady, Tiffanie Tudor, Nassau County Volunteer of the Year!

We are grateful to have such talent on our team and as a new board member.  Her dedication to the animals is awesome.

How You Can Help

Foster Care
Volunteers who open their hearts and homes for fostering are truly our "adoption ambassadors". Fostering can be long-term or short-term based on what is convenient for you. The animals could be puppies or kittens looking for a nurturing environment. The animals could be ill or injured needing oversight while healing. And of course there are the healthy animals whose behavior may be threatened due to the stress of a shelter environment. FOSTER PROFILE
Off Site Adoption Events
Showcasing the animals outside their kenneling environment at remote adoption events is paramount to helping them get to a forever home. Truly another hands-on Animal Ambassador role. Spending 2 or 3 hours serving the animals at these events can mean an extra chance for a new home.
Dog Walking/Cat Socialization

Needing little explanation, these are two very important activities associated with shelter life enrichment, a concept that is extremely relevant to the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare. These activities not only provide exercise for the animals to help lessen kenneling stress, etc., but the animals also experience human interactions which is such a vital part to developing their positive personalities, improving their chances for adoption.

Videographers/Photographers
A picture is worth a thousand words and that is so true for our furry friends. Your talents as director, producer, and camera person can be utilized throughout the animal welfare community. Videos of animals being posted for adoption are the lion's share of the work but whether they are videos/pics taken on site, at remote adoption events, before and after makeovers, group photos, etc., all are very important for focusing on the animals at their best!
Office Support
Not all important volunteer work is "hands on". Filing, processing paperwork, photocopying, data entry, etc. may not be as apparent as the "fur touching" activities, but the office support is the basis on which so many other activities can be put into motion. Timely office help is mission critical.
Shelter Operations
Of course kennels need cleaning, animals need feeding/watering/grooming, dishes/laundry need washing, ongoing scooping is needed, behaviors need observing, etc., etc., etc. These volunteers are the boots on the ground to ensure the animals receive the minimal attention per the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare.
Transport

On occasion there is a need to transport animals to events, vet visits for owners unable to do so, other shelters, etc. This is a great way to help on an as needed basis. You would be notified when this service is needed.

REMEMBER

All volunteers make a difference with giving unwanted animals

a second chance and helping to save lives.

Please go to our "I Want to Volunteer" page to complete the brief profile form.

We will review it, contact you with any questions, etc., and will make
